Julie Christie – 81, British India
Julie Christie was born in British India before enrolling in London’s Central School of Speech and Drama. Her schooling gave her the skills to succeed on the big screen. Nonetheless, her successful acting career has always been built on her inherent appeal rather than professional competence. Christie, by the way, has an excess of it! She is most known for her roles in Doctor Zhivago and Darling, although she has also starred in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Company You Keep, and The Bookshop. She declared her retirement from performing in 2018.

Jane Asher, who had been active since the early 1950s, rose to prominence as Sir Paul McCartney’s girlfriend/muse. Asher has recently appeared in a couple of short films and the 2015 TV series Eve. She is, however, poised to return to more major roles in two upcoming films: Splinter and 3 of a Kind.

Helen Mirren – 76, London
Maggie Smith – 86, Ilford
Maggie Smith, whose portrayal of Violet Crawley in Downton Abbey has won her (yet another) reputation as one of the UK’s coolest screen/stage actors, would be an omission from our list of British acting Dames. Smith has been an actor since 1952, appearing in nearly 80 shows. Younger fans may recall her as the fiery Professor Minerva McGonagall from the Harry Potter film series. She will return as Violet Crawley in the recently announced Downton Abbey 2 film in 2022.

Atkins is well-known for her work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Broadway appearances. She was one of the numerous celebrities to appear in the 2001 film Gosford Park. Throughout her distinguished 68-year career, Atkins has been one of the few outstanding performers who can thrive in tragedies and comedy. In the juvenile hit film What a Girl Wants, she made us giggle, and in the historical drama Cold Mountain, she provided a believable portrayal.

EILEEN ATKINS – 87, CLAPTON
Charlotte Rampling – 75, Sturmer

Stephanie Beacham – 74, Barnet

She was awarded the French Legion of Honor in 2010, and former President Nicolas Sarkozy referred to her as “a movie classic.”

Jacqueline Bisset – 76, Weybridge
Petula Clark – 88, Ewell
It’s reasonable that Petula Clark hasn’t been on screen since the late 1980s. The Ewell native had a three-decade successful acting career, but she is most renowned for her work as a singer/composer. During WWII, she began as a kid, working for BBC Radio. Her first big hit, “The Little Shoemaker,” came out in the mid-1950s. Craig, a mother of two from Durham’s Sacriston, had a hugely successful run in the 1960s and 1970s, appearing in three consecutive sitcoms: Not in Front of the Children,… The mother also has three children… Mother also produces five. She was most recently seen in SAS: Red Notice, an action film based on the actual life of a former member of the British SAS. Reid’s future seems brighter than ever. Anne Reid – 86, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Anthony Hopkins – 83, Port Talbot
When you think Anthony Hopkins’ career is ending, he shocks you with films like The Father, which earned him his second Academy Award for Best Actor. His amazing performance in 2020 made him the oldest Best Actor Oscar winner in history, capping up a stellar 61-year career. Hopkins has been considered one of the world’s most skilled performers since his portrayal of the crazy Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. He has something for everyone, from David Lynch’s The Elephant Man to HBO’s dystopian drama Westworld.

Anthony Hopkins – 83, Port Talbot
Barbara Knox – 87, Oldham
If Barbara Knox wins the race, she will be the unchallenged champion. Knox is a British soap opera actress best known for her role as Rita Tanner on Coronation Street. She also created one of the country’s most well-known fictional characters. Tanner was her character in 3,175 Coronation Street episodes (and counting). Knox’s soap opera experience began in 1964 and continues to this day. She departed the show after just one episode and never returned. She has also played various roles on the Funny You Should Say That TV program.

Barbara Knox – 87, Oldham
Charles Dance – 74, Redditch
Is there a more talented actor than Charles Dance? Dance’s remarkable career is littered with triumphs. As Lord Mountbatten in The Crown, he narrated Rise of Empires: Ottoman and will star in the upcoming action/adventure series The Sandman. Not bad for a three-year-old boy from Redditch, Worcestershire, whose father died when he was three! Nonetheless, he is most known for playing the obstinate Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, probably the most successful television series of the past two decades. He has also acted in several well-known films, including Gosford Park and The Imitation Game.

Charles Dance – 74, Redditch
Charles Shaughnessy – 66, London
Charles Shaughnessy, born into a show industry family, was not afraid to speak openly about family concerns. He made his acting debut in the television series Jury in 1983. He rose to prominence after acting in the 1990s big hit series The Nanny, and he has since been in Days of Our Lives, Stanley, Mad Men, and The Magicians. Speaking of magic, Shaughnessy is presently working on The Magic, a new romantic film. Charles, the direct grandson of the 1st Baron Shaughnessy, has received three Soap Opera Digest Awards and the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program in 2002.

Charles Shaughnessy – 66, London
Christina Pickles – 86, Halifax
It’s hard to think Christina Pickles, who played Judy Geller on Friends, is nearly 86! The Halifax native has stayed stunning and active over the years, and we look forward to seeing her in the Friends: The Reunion TV special in 2021. Pickles’ career outside of Friends has been extensive. She has appeared in over 90 films and television programs, including Masters of the Universe, Romeo, and Juliet, Get Real, The Guiding Light, and Break a Hip. She starred in the NBC medical drama series St. Elsewhere in the 1980s.

Christina Pickles – 86, Halifax
Derek Jacobi – 82, Leytonstone
We’re not sure how he managed it, but British actor Derek Jacobi has become a theater classic while appearing in more than 150 films. Jacobi, a well-known stage actor/director, considers himself a William Shakespeare specialist, appearing in practically all of the renowned writer’s works, from Romeo and Juliet to the lesser-known Much Ado About Nothing. He was most recently seen in 2021 in an episode of Inside No. 9 in the documentary series The Lost Pirate Kingdom. He is working on four new projects, one of which is the prison drama A Bird Flew In.

Derek Jacobi – 82, Leytonstone
Eileen Derbyshire – 89, Urmston
Soap operas are popular in the United Kingdom, and Eileen Derbyshire is possibly the best British soap star. The 89-year-old retired actress is the longest-serving female cast member in the history of British soap operas, and her extraordinary career speaks for itself. Between 1961 and 2019, Derbyshire only participated in two TV productions: a low-key 1969 TV movie and… It’s Coronation Street! Derbyshire recently lost her longtime companion Thomas W. Holt to Alzheimer’s disease. We hope she finds comfort in the companionship of her friends and family, particularly her famous son, sports journalist Oliver Holt.

Eileen Derbyshire – 89, Urmston
Glenda Jackson – 85, Birkenhead
Actors are well-known, but it takes a certain skill to make it to Parliament. Glenda Jackson decided to run for office after winning two Oscars for Best Actress. She was excellent! She served as the Member of Parliament for Hampstead and Kilburn from 1992 to 2015 and was the country’s first Under-Secretary of State for Transport under former Prime Minister Tony Blair. Jackson chose to return to the studio after leaving politics, and he recently starred in the 2021 drama Mothering Sunday, starring Olivia Colman and Colin Firth.

Glenda Jackson – 85, Birkenhead
Hugh Grant – 60, London
Hugh Grant embodies the English gentleman who is always charming. Despite his uncivilized past, he retains the same smooth-speaking, awe-inspiring talent we’ve seen in films like Notting Hill, About a Boy, and Love Actually (he was once arrested for enjoying the company of a lady of the night). To the satisfaction of every moviegoer, Grant, who is 60 years old, still has several decades of performing ahead of him. He co-starred in the 2020 miniseries The Undoing alongside Nicole Kidman and is now working on a new Guy Ritchie film.

Hugh Grant – 60, London
Jeremy Irons – 72, Cowes
If born in the 1990s, you might be surprised to learn that Jeremy Irons plays Scar, The Lion King’s violent and ambitious villain. That, however, is only one of Irons’ many notable roles. Irons is a determined campaigner, a kind person, and one of the few performers to have won the acting Triple Crown. He is a UN Goodwill Ambassador, a patron of the Chiltern Shakespeare Company, and one of several British celebrities who sponsored the No Cold Homes campaign in 2015. In addition, he has appeared in Dead Ringers, Lolita, and Justice League.

Jeremy Irons – 72, Cowes
Jessica Benton – 72, Hampstead
Jessica Benton, the charming former British actress, is no longer seen, yet she will never be forgotten. From 1971 through 1980, she starred as Elizabeth Onedin in the BBC series The Onedin Line, and she has tragically never been on television again. We last heard from her in 1993, when she was profiled in a brief Daily Mirror piece. The ever-discreet Hampstead native was living in Dorset with her husband and child. She was a pet owner with ten dogs and over a hundred chicks!

Jessica Benton – 72, Hampstead
Jim Broadbent – 72, Holton Cum Beckering
Jim Broadbent is an actor/writer/producer who knows what it takes to create a memorable character. He is the son of a furniture maker and a sculptor. Broadbent, regarded as one of the country’s most accomplished character performers, has starred in roughly 160 films since the early 1970s. It’s difficult to pick just a few memorable roles. Still, we thought he was fantastic in the Moulin Rouge musical, Margaret Thatcher’s drama The Iron Lady, and the Harry Potter film series. Broadbent will feature in Charlotte and A Boy Called Christmas in 2021.

Jim Broadbent – 72, Holton Cum Beckering
Julie Walters – 71, Edgbaston
Dame Julie Walters, who is always hilarious, has worked hard on the upcoming documentaries Scotland’s Coastal Railways with Julie Walters and Britain’s Busiest Airport: Heathrow. She is best recognized, though, for her work as a comedian and actor. Walters’ parents desired that she become a nurse, but she chose a profession in show business instead, and she hasn’t looked back since! Walters’ name should be on any list of great British actors because he has been in films like Billy Elliott, the Harry Potter series, Mamma Mia!, and Mary Poppins Returns.

Julie Walters – 71, Edgbaston
June Brown – 94, Needham Market
She likes to smoke, is highly religious, and is always up for good gossip. We’re not referring to June Brown but her notable role in EastEnders. It’s easy to mix the two, especially because Brown has been playing Dot Cotton since the first episode of EastEnders aired in 1985. While many long-running British soap actors have a restricted resume, Brown has starred in many films and television productions before and after her role as Dot Cotton. Spiderlings, a colorful horror-comedy in which she played a fictionalized version of herself, is one of her most recent flicks.

June Brown – 94, Needham Market
Kevin Mcnally – 65, Bristol
We don’t know if English actor Kevin McNally grew up in Bristol, but one thing is certain: he’s the greatest choice to play a pirate. McNally isn’t a one-trick pony, but his position as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise has defined his career. Joshamee Gibbs, a character noted for his sideburns and relationship with Captain Jack Sparrow, was played by him. However, Gibbs is merely one of more than 150 acting roles played by McNally. He has also appeared in The Crown, Catherine the Great, and You Really Got Me in recent years.

Kevin Mcnally – 65, Bristol
Leonard Whiting – 71, London
Whiting’s last acting role happened to be this one. It’s a romantic story: in 1968, the charming Olivia Hussey and the attractive Leonard Whiting starred in Franco Zeffirelli’s film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. They reunited several decades later in 2015 to play a married couple in the drama Social Suicide. Whiting, who has been retired since his unexpected return in 2015, won a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year for his performance in Romeo and Juliet. He appeared in a few popular Italian films and the animated series The Dreamstone.

Leonard Whiting – 71, London
Liam Neeson – 69, Ballymena
Liam Neeson is, without a doubt, Northern Ireland’s most famous actor, and he is currently one of Hollywood’s most popular action stars (despite his 69th birthday). While the premise of Taken (a retired CIA agent attempting to save his daughter) may sound familiar, Neeson’s original take on the role was well applauded. While many expected Neeson’s career to peak with the exquisite Schindler’s List, he astonished everyone by helping to turn the Taken film series into a worldwide box-office hit. Neeson will appear in two additional action flicks in 2021: The Marksman and The Ice Road.

Liam Neeson – 69, Ballymena
Malcolm Mcdowell – 78, Horsforth
Malcolm McDowell was destined to play the insane Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece A Clockwork Orange. He never buckled under the weight of his early-career achievement when he was cast in one of cinema’s all-time classics as a young actor. McDowell has previously acted in Star Trek Generations, the Halloween and Halloween II horror remakes, Mozart in the Jungle, and Easy A. McDowell, 78, has recently appeared in Castlevania and the drama Just Noise.

Malcolm Mcdowell – 78, Horsforth
Michael Caine – 88, Rotherhithe
Best Sellers, the latest film from Sir Michael Caine, looks promising: he portrays a cantankerous writer who agrees to go on a book tour to help a struggling publisher. But, according to quote Caine, even though he has been acting since 1953 and has starred in almost 170 films and television shows, seeing him in a film or television series is still exhilarating. Caine is still charming and accomplished at the age of 88. He has played significant roles throughout his long career in show business, but he is most remembered for his efforts in Alfie, The Cider House Rules, The Quiet American, and The Dark Knight.

MICHAEL CAINE – 88, ROTHERHITHE
Miranda Richardson – 63, Southport
Miranda Richardson is an English actress who has appeared in films such as The Hours, Spider, and The Crying Game. She has been nominated for seven BAFTAs. She also appeared in Enchanted April, a 1992 film starring Jim Broadbent and Alfred Molina. Richardson is a World Wildlife Fund ambassador and a West End performer nominated for an Olivier Award. She met famed method actor Daniel Day-Lewis while studying at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Not bad for a Southport kid who used to spend hours at her local theatre watching matinees of western movies!

Miranda Richardson – 63, Southport
Pam St Clement – 79, Harrow On The Hill
Pam St Clement hasn’t been seen in quite some time. Since a few episodes of Casualty in 2017, the 79-year-old British actress hasn’t been in a film or television show. On the other hand, St Clement is a minor TV personality best known for her recurring role as Pat Butcher in the BBC serial opera EastEnders. She featured in over 2,500 episodes of EastEnders between 1986 and 2012, and she still made two special cameos in 2016. Although St Clement worked hard before landing a role on EastEnders, the program represents her professional apex. Among her, prior roles are Emmerdale Farm, A Horseman Riding By, and Play for Today.

Pam St Clement – 79, Harrow on the Hill
Patrick Stewart – 81, Mirfield
Younger fans will recognize Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier from the X-Men films. Stewart honed his craft before becoming Hollywood’s favorite bald man by acting in West End plays and collaborating with the Royal Shakespeare Company. In the 1980s, he transitioned from stage to film, and he did so with a bang, landing his most notable role as the effervescent Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Surprisingly, Stewart is currently revisiting the character in the television series Star Trek: Picard, which will return for a second season in 2022. Queen Elizabeth II knighted him in 2010.

Patrick Stewart – 81, Mirfield
Peter Dean – 82, Hoxton
Peter Dean, born and raised in London, decided to study acting after being spotted practicing Shakespeare at Petticoat Lane Market at 16. Prunella Scales (from Fawlty Towers) advised him to pursue a career as an actor, which he did with great success. Dean has not been seen in public since 2016, but he is rumored to be working on a new film called Freedom Dance. Dean will be remembered for his role as Pete Beale in the EastEnders soap opera despite having been in over 40 projects. In addition, he has appeared in Woodentop and Coronation Street.

Peter Dean – 82, Hoxton
Robert Carlyle – 60, Maryhill
Although Glasgow does not generate as many brilliant performers as London, Robert Carlyle is a Scottish film fan’s hero. Carlyle, born in Glasgow’s historic Maryhill neighborhood, has had a long career in film and television, most notably in the cult classic Trainspotting and the 1999 James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough. Carlyle recently re-enacted Begbie in T2 Trainspotting, the much anticipated 2017 sequel. He’s been busy as Prime Minister Robert Sutherland in Cobra, a new Sky Original action-drama series, since 2020.

Robert Carlyle – 60, Maryhill
Rowan Atkinson – 66, Consett
If that isn’t enough, consider this: Mr. Bean, like fish and chips, is a British cultural icon! Few programs in television history have been liked equally by toddlers and adults. In contrast, Mr. Bean’s comic works will make even the most jaded granny laugh as hard as a child. Atkinson, a comedic genius, took “goofing around” to new heights, turning his pantomime-like antics into works of art. While Mr. Bean is still alive and well (a new TV series is in the works), Atkinson elected to retire in 2012, shortly after appearing at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Rowan Atkinson – 66, Consett
Sally Ann Howes – 91, St. John’s Wood
Sally Ann Howes is the darling daughter of the late comedian Bobby Howes and actress/singer Patricia Malone. Unsurprisingly, she chose to follow in her parent’s footsteps and build a name for herself in the entertainment industry. She rose to prominence in the 1940s with roles in films such as Dead of Night and The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby. She later starred in the blockbuster hit musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 1968. She was a movie star who also worked in the West End and on Broadway, earning her British-American citizenship. Howes hasn’t been featured on television since the 1992 miniseries Secrets.

Sally Ann Howes – 91, St. John’s Wood
Sarah Lancashire – 56, Oldham
Sarah Lancashire, the star of Last Tango in Halifax, is one of our list’s younger actors, but she has a long career ahead of her. Lancashire, a former University of Salford theater lecturer, has continually demonstrated her commitment to the performing arts. She spent many years on Coronation Street before getting roles in Happy Valley, School of Roars, and MotherFatherSon. Her father, famed British scriptwriter Geoffrey Lancashire, was most likely the inspiration for her successful acting career. Julia, a new television series, will premiere in 2022.

Sarah Lancashire – 56, Oldham
Sean Bean – 62, Sheffield
Sean Bean, Sheffield’s pride, had the good fortune to appear in two of the most critically acclaimed productions of the previous 25 years, The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. He’s a fan favorite and an Internet meme sensation: people enjoy mocking his “ability” to die on screen! Bean has over 110 film and television credits, including Snowpiercer, Time, and Hitman 3. (a well-known game). There isn’t enough space to list all of his significant film roles, so here are a few: Patriot Games, GoldenEye, National Treasure, The Island, and The Martian are examples.

Sean Bean – 62, Sheffield
Alfred Molina – 68, Paddington
Alfred Molina, the son of a Spanish and an Italian immigrant seeking a better life in wartime Britain, aspired to be an actor when he was nine. Molina was cast in Boogie Nights and Magnolia after gaining huge parts on the West End and Broadway. Later, in Frida, he played Mexican painter Diego Rivera, and in Spider-Man 2, he played the adversary Dr. Octopus. He appeared in Solar Opposites and Monsters at Work in 2021. Molina worked hard to achieve where he is now and to be proud of his old self.

Alfred Molina – 68, Paddington
Sheila Hancock – 88, Blackgang
Dame Sheila Hancock will be 88 years old in 2021, but she has the vigor and inventiveness of someone much younger. She was most recently seen in the new seasons of A Discovery of Witches and Unforgotten. Hancock, who grew up in a “lower-middle-class” family, values hard work and has been in more than 110 films. She was also a successful theater actor, having been nominated for a Tony Award and winning an Olivier Award. She has appeared in various well-known shows throughout her career, including Annie, Sweeney Todd, The Winter’s Tale, Cabaret, and Sister Act.

Sheila Hancock – 88, Blackgang
Ben Kingsley – 77, Snainton
Sir Ben Kingsley, Krishna Pandit Bhanji, is one of today’s most versatile actors. It’s difficult to imagine two historical figures more opposed than pacifist Mahatma Gandhi and colorful painter Salvador Dal. But guess what? Kingsley is capable of playing both parts! Kingsley won an Oscar for his depiction of Gandhi in an epic early-’80s biopic, and we believe he can do so again with Dali Land, which is now in post-production. While we wait for Kingsley to be recognized as one of the most magnetic artists of all time, we may watch him in Schindler’s List, Shutter Island, or Hugo.

Ben Kingsley – 77, Snainton
Joanna Lumley – 75, Srinagar
Given her stunning beauty, it’s no surprise that Joanna Lumley began her modeling career in the Swinging Sixties. She dabbled in acting before being chosen from 800 auditionees to play Purdey in the 1970s show The New Avengers. While captivating spectators, she also established herself as a significant personality, with her Purdey bob hairdo becoming a global trend. Lumley, 75, has successfully kept her place in the industry, most recently in The Picture of Dorian Gray, and currently filming The Inn at the Edge of the World.

Joanna Lumley – 75, Srinagar
Leslie Phillips – 97, Tottenham
Leslie Phillips fans will be ecstatic to learn that the legendary English actor will star in Darkheart Manor, a new mystery film. After all, he hasn’t appeared on TV since 2012, when he declared his retirement, effectively bringing his 78-year career to a close. Phillips’ best performances are in Doctor in the House and Carry On. He also hosted The Navy Lark, a popular radio comedy show. Younger fans will recall his voice as the Sorting Hat in the Harry Potter series.

Leslie Phillips – 97, Tottenham
Julie Goodyear – 79, United Kingdom
Without Julie Goodyear, who plays the scene-stealing Bet Lynch, “Coronation Street” wouldn’t be the same. After all, she has been playing this tough role since the first episode of ITV’s longest-running serial drama aired in 1966. Goodyear appeared in nine episodes of The Cobbles before being requested to return as a regular in 1970. She stayed on the show until 1995, when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. The former “Celebrity Big Brother” housemate married Scott Brand in 2007 and has three grandchildren whom she adores.
